My name is Nadia Vasquez, and I am currently a sophomore double majoring in English and Studio Art and minoring in Art History at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. This summer, I was blessed with the opportunity of working as an intern at Midwest Theological Forum.
These past six weeks have been a wonderful experience of deep diving into the publishing world. It is interesting seeing and partaking in the behind-the-scenes of book production, from book quotes to promotional articles. I was able to help with updating and writing Wikipedia articles for various MTF authors. Researching and learning about these Catholic writers helped me conceptualize the intellect and understanding necessary to write Catholic textbooks. In addition, I took excerpts from different podcasts and converted them into short articles for the St. Josemaria Institute. I enjoyed this project because it gave me the opportunity to learn about a variety of devotions and feast days.
As my first office experience, working at MTF was a different environment compared to my previous jobs. Here, I refined my writing and research skills with attention to detail. Moreover, I improved in bigger projects and managed several articles at a time. Midwest Theological Forum was the perfect way to be introduced to the publishing industry through these tasks and challenges.
Ultimately, the best aspect of working at MTF is the inherently Catholic atmosphere. As a Catholic publishing house, MTF’s employees are called to live by Christian values, and they consistently go above and beyond in doing so. Everyone is so kind and genuine; it is impossible to not feel at home here. Catholic publishing houses such as Midwest Theological Forum are integral to spreading the Word of God, and the MTF community works in a sanctifying manner.
I am grateful for this opportunity to work at Midwest Theological Forum and am especially thankful for MTF’s wonderful staff who made me feel welcome during my time there.
