MTF Intern

My name is Margarita Mora, and I am a rising junior at Christendom College, double majoring in English and Philosophy. This summer, I have had the wonderful opportunity to work as a publishing intern with Midwest Theological Forum, gaining valuable experience in an office setting and various insights into the publishing world.

For six weeks, I have been able to observe different aspects of publishing and marketing, while performing several tasks for the company, such as compiling contacts for promotional purposes, sorting images to be used in books, and working on an article for the MTF blog. A special highlight was getting to proofread the text of a pre-published book, which afforded me a rare glimpse into the process of putting a book together, as well as a greater appreciation for the amount of detail in MTF’s work. The level of care that they put into their products is truly impressive, such as ensuring accuracy and fidelity to the Magisterium, as well as selecting beautiful artwork that will inspire the reader.

Another aspect of interning with MTF that I appreciated was the deeply Catholic environment I was able to work in. From the sacred art adorning walls to the daily praying of the Angelus, it was a true blessing to be surrounded by reminders of the Faith behind the work MTF does. This faith was also expressed by the wonderful staff at MTF, through their kindness and willingness to work with me and answer any questions I had. It was truly edifying to work with people who clearly care about what they do, and the One they serve in doing it.

As someone with an interest in book production, working for a Catholic publishing company has been a very rewarding experience for me. I have enjoyed observing all the different roles that go into the production of such high-quality books, and the fact that these roles are fulfilled by mission-driven people has only made the experience so much more inspiring. It has been an honor to play a small part in the mission of MTF, and I am incredibly grateful for the time I spent here.
