A Shorter Roman Ritual / Rituale Parvum
Pocket Edition
Description
Midwest Theological Forum published A Shorter Roman Ritual / Rituale Parvum in 2009. We published it in two sizes: a pocket-size version in genuine leather and a large-print version in genuine leather and hardcover.
It is out of print. At present, we do not have a license to publish a new edition.
A Shorter Roman Ritual / Rituale Parvum was a compilation of selected rites and blessings—in the character of the former Collectio Rituum—from the liturgical texts of the editiones typicæ issued after the Second Vatican Council. It featured a side-by-side English-Latin format, gilded edges, a gold-stamped cover, and excerpts from the Manual of Indulgences.
This concise compilation for priests and bishops was a practical resource for administering emergency rites of Sacraments and blessings. It was useful in situations where the full range of liturgical books was not readily available. It allowed priests to perform essential sacramental functions and blessings in either English or Latin.
Since the publication of A Shorter Roman Ritual / Rituale Parvum in 2009, the English-language texts for administering the Sacraments have been superseded by revised translations. The revised translations were intended to provide more accurate translations of the Latin, restore theological and biblical richness, preserve the literary character of the Roman Rite, and promote unity among English-speaking Catholics throughout the world.
On the other hand, the Latin texts of A Shorter Roman Ritual / Rituale Parvum have not changed and continue to be up to date.
We have requested a license to publish a new, revised edition of A Shorter Roman Ritual / Rituale Parvum, reflecting these new English-language translations. At this time, we have been asked to wait on publishing a revised edition. There is a growing desire within the Church to maintain the integrity of the liturgical rites in unabridged versions, whereas A Shorter Roman Ritual / Rituale Parvum requires omitting certain options and other elements.
