Midwest Theological Forum (MTF) was pleased to welcome our second summer 2025 intern, Grace Larson! She quickly jumped in, helped out, and became one more of the team. We are so grateful for all her help! Now, as she completes her time with us, we asked Grace to share a brief reflection on her experience at MTF learning about the world of Catholic publishing today.
My name is Grace Larson, and I am currently a senior studying Business Administration at the University of Cologne, Germany. This summer, I had the opportunity to work a short internship at Midwest Theological Forum, and have had a wonderful experience overall.
What struck me first when starting to work at MTF was the strong sense of community. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, and I felt integrated into the company within a matter of days. Especially for those who have no experience working in publishing, I couldn’t recommend a better place to start as the folks at MTF are more than willing to guide you every step of the way. It’s an incredible witness to living out the Catholic faith in one’s daily work, and contributes to the company’s joyful, positive atmosphere.
The work itself was also interesting and engaging, and gave me a good introduction to the world of publishing. I was able to help update a series of parish textbooks and also wrote several blog posts showcasing MTF books. Through the research I did when writing these blog posts, I not only learned about the writing process in general, but also about the riches and beauty of my own faith.
But perhaps the biggest lesson that I learned was simply how important it is that Catholic publishing companies such as MTF continue to do the work that they do. Because for these companies, it’s not about the profit. It’s about putting Christ at the center of everything they do, and proclaiming the Word of God to the rest of the world. It’s a mission that is imperative to continue – especially today, in the midst of so much confusion and deceit.
I am very grateful for being able to contribute to the work of Midwest Theological Forum this summer. I wish everyone at MTF a blessed and productive rest of the year, and all the best in their future endeavors.
