National Marriage Week
The observances of National Marriage Week (February 7–14) and World Marriage Day (February 8) call the faithful to reflect more deeply on the gift of marriage as God designed and entrusted to the Church. These celebrations provide a special opportunity to renew our commitment to building a culture of life, which begins with honoring and supporting marriage and family life—the very foundation of society.
This year’s theme, Man and Woman He Created Them: Together with Purpose, echoes the truth revealed in Sacred Scripture and affirmed by Church teaching: marriage is a sacred covenant between a man and a woman, ordered toward mutual self-giving love, the good of the spouses, and the welcoming and formation of children. Established by God and elevated by Christ to the dignity of a sacrament, marriage is not merely a social institution but a vocation in which husband and wife are called to reflect Christ’s self-giving and sacrificial love for His Church.
In a culture that often diminishes the meaning of marriage, National Marriage Week and World Marriage Day invite couples, families, and the faithful to rediscover the beauty and purpose of the marital vocation. We are reminded that strong marriages and families are essential to the Church’s mission; by championing for Catholic marriage through prayer, formation, and trusted resources, we help foster a culture where faith and family can flourish.
In support of these important observances, we are pleased to offer a selection of faithful resources to encourage prayer, dialogue, and a deeper appreciation of the sacramental nature of marriage as a lifelong call to holiness.
