The Major Extracts of the
Liturgy of the Hours,
Second Edition
In November 2025, Midwest Theological Forum was selected by the Committee on Divine Worship of the USCCB to receive an exclusive contract for producing the Major Extracts of the Liturgy of the Hours, Second Edition, in a single-volume.
While the proposed contents are still being reviewed by Midwest Theological Forum and the Committee on Divine Worship, the Major Extracts will likely be a “diurnal,” featuring the full psalmody for the Hours throughout the day: Lauds (Morning Prayer), the Daytime Hours (Terce, Sext, None), Vespers (Evening Prayer), and Compline (Night Prayer). Also, the inclusion and format of Matins (the Office of Readings) are being discussed. In this respect, the Major Extracts would be more extensive than Christian Prayer, which is currently in wide use.
Additional material—such as devotional prayers and a simple guide to praying the Liturgy of the Hours—is also being considered.

Faithful, Beautiful,
Uncompromised Quality
The MTF edition of the Major Extracts of the Liturgy of the Hours is being prepared with careful attention to usability, readability, durability, and overall design.
While it cannot include all text contained in the four-volume edition of the Liturgy of the Hours, the Major Extracts will provide a comprehensive and practical selection suitable for praying every Hour throughout the year.
Our edition will be designed to be portable and durable, to accompany clergy, religious, and the lay faithful wherever they pray throughout the day.
Like our treasured liturgical and prayer books, the MTF edition will feature reader-friendly typography and beautiful artwork inspired by historical sacred art and illustrations.
